In April and early May, forestry and zoological monitoring activities officially resumed as part of the Life4OakForests project.
Zoological surveys have restarted in the 1-hectare monitoring plots located at Monte Mauro and Rontana. Saproxylic insects, carabid beetles, and spiders are being monitored by entomologist Roberto Fabbri, while bat populations are being studied by bat expert Massimo Bertozzi.
On May 6th, an official field day marked the start of this year’s forest and herbaceous vegetation surveys, attended by Serena Petroncini, the coordinating technician representing Ente Parchi Romagna (MAR).
Forest surveys are being carried out by the team from Studio Silva srl. In addition to the repeated monitoring of the 1-hectare plots, all LIFE project areas within the park will be reassessed. Simultaneously, monitoring of herbaceous and shrub species has resumed, coordinated by botanist Nicola Merloni.
These activities will continue throughout the summer and into the autumn. This marks the final year of repeated monitoring—an essential step in evaluating the effectiveness of the conservation measures implemented to protect and restore the park’s valuable oak forests. 🌿
