Species and habitat description

Morimus funereus is a protected beetle species belonging to the Cerambycidae family living especially in oak forests in Hungary. It is a large, squat, flightless species, their wings are hooded together along the seam, the membrane wings are vestigial. The beetle is grey but on the elytron are visible two irregularly shaped velvety black patches. The Morimus funereus occurs in the mountain’s oak and beech forests on the lying deadwood and under logs. That beetle is active usually at dusk.

Major threats

It is endangered by removing standing and lying deadwood.

Specific conservation action

Standing and lying deadwood will be created on all project sites.
